PENNY, Harvey Melvin - It is with much sadness and deep regret to announce the passing away of Harvey Melvin Penny on December 17th, 2011. Harvey died peacefully at home with his family. Harvey was the son of John C. Penny and Lillian Joyce (nee Vardy). Harvey lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was born in Sydney, Cape Breton in 1925. Harvey had fought a lengthy and courageous battle with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. He was a Veteran of World War II and had served overseas in the Canadian Navy aboard the ship H.M.C.S. LaSalle. Harvey was a member of Fairview United Church, NSGEU, Canadian Legion, Newfoundland Club and Stadacona Electrical Fleet Club (Honorary Member). He was predeceased by his wife, Georgina Eulah Etheridge, his brothers, Cecil, Lloyd and sister Maudie Anderson. Harvey is survived by one brother Harold George Penny and wife Elaine in Peterborough, Ontario and a niece, Karen Neal. Harvey leaves three children, namely, Barry Scott Penny and wife Nicole in William’s Lake, B.C.; Laurie Beth Sinclair and Ian Harvey Penny and wife, Denise in Fall River, Nova Scotia. Harvey was always proud of his nine beautiful grandchildren namely, Michael, David, Jessica, Daniel, Ryan, Kaleigh, Meaghan, Daniel and Amy. Harvey was a Teacher. He loved teaching. He taught many years at the Nova Scotia Community College on Leeds Street in Halifax where he taught many facets of the Electrical Industry. Harvey loved teaching and had a great rapport with his apprentices. Harvey also loved dancing and socializing. He danced wherever and whatever. Harvey’s dancing partner and companion was Virtue. She is and was a Florence Nightingale in disguise. Thank-you Virtue. Harvey wishes his heartfelt thanks to Doctors Eric Handley, Fred Archibald, David Anderson; Cobequid Blood Lab and the staff of the Hematology Clinic at Capital Health. Arrangements are entrusted to J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax (902) 455-0531. There will be no visitation as Harvey has bequeathed his remains to Dalhousie University.
