Helen (Baxter) Clattenburg (Mom, Nan, Grammie) passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 1, 2026. She will be forever remembered and loved by her family. Our hearts are warmed by the understanding that she now rests in peace and has been reunited with her husband, Gerry.
Born in Pictou, Nova Scotia, Helen was raised by her mother Mae Welton in Malagash Mine. Helen attended school in Tatamagouche, and then business college in Kentville. Helen married Gerry in 1972 and made their home in Timberlea.
Helen raised her family, was a long-time member the Ladies Group at St. Andrew’s, bible study, was the pie cutter at many church suppers and participated in the church variety shows. Helen was a woman of faith. She loved music, reading, sudoku puzzles, soap operas and Hallmark movies. She was fortunate enough to see Daniel O’Donnell on a few occasions. She was a tremendous baker, known for her donuts, pies, marshmallow squares, moose balls and tweed squares. Helen’s quilts were stitched with love and care for many family and friends. Her family dinners were created with love and brought us all together to enjoy a meal. Christmas was her favorite season, when all the family would be together. Outside of the church, Helen was a Beaver leader for at least 14 years, serving in the Timberlea area, and fondly remembered as “Bubbles”. She enjoyed trips to the cottage, shopping, and dancing when Gerry was playing in the band. Good advice was something Helen offered to family and friends at times of need. Friendship was also central to Helen’s life, and she cherished the many bonds she made over the years. The Timberlea Seniors Group saw many afternoons spent playing crib, bingo, attending luncheons and having a few good laughs.
Helen is survived by her family, daughter Janet Haché of Timberlea, daughter-in-law, Ann Clattenburg of Texas, son’s Jimmy (Dawn) Clattenburg of Truro and Paul (Tracy) Clattenburg of Timberlea. Known to her loving grandchildren as Nan or Grammie -- Jennifer Meisner (Greg), Christopher Haché, Amy LeBlanc (Dave), Daniel Clattenburg (Nicole), Sullivan Clattenburg, Megan Clattenburg and Tyler Clattenburg. Helen had 12 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews that she adored.
Helen was predeceased by her husband Gerry, mother Mae Welton, stepfather Freeman Welton, brothers Donald Baxter and Maurice Baxter, son-in-law Roger Haché, son Wayne Clattenburg and sister-in-law Sandra Baxter.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Halifax Infirmary IMCU and ICU Units for their kindness and support throughout Mom’s journey under their care.
