Drew, Helen Colleen (Connie) – age 98, originally of Terence Bay, passed away peacefully at Saint Vincents Nursing Home on February 20th, 2025. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Mary Adeline (Jollimore) Little and was the last surviving member of her family. She is survived by her sons Barry (Kathy), Lyle (Sandra), Ward (Lisa) and her daughter Rhonda (Wayne) Mauger. She was predeceased by her husband George (Tim); her seven brothers: Stan, Ward, Edward, Everett, Donald, Frederick and Albert; and her four sisters: Muriel, Sylvia, Marion and Grace. She will be lovingly remembered by her eight grandchildren: Michael, Holly, Allison, Peter, Eric, Jenny, Amy and Angie; her eleven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Connie loved her family, her church and her community.
Connie was a longtime member of the Star of the Sea Parish in Terence Bay. She was later a member of St. Josephs Church in Shad Bay until she moved to the nursing home in Halifax where she continued to follow the daily broadcasts of mass on TV. Connie was actively involved in her church community through various committees and auxiliary groups and took part in many fund raising events. In recognition of her work with the church over the years Connie received a medal from the Archdioceses.
Connie was also very busy within the community outside of church activities. She collected yearly in her area for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, she worked at polling stations for elections, and was also an enthusiastic volunteer with the S. S. Atlantic Society for many years, interacting with the many tourists that came to visit the area.
Mom and Dad loved to camp and spent many memorable weekends at Campers Villa, Sherwood Forest and Riverland campgrounds. She also loved trout fishing on 2nd lake and annual excursions to the Valley for blueberry picking.
When at home Mom loved baking, cooking, playing cards and watching baseball and curling on TV. She particularly liked to watch the World Series on TV during play off time (which she referred to as the World Serious).
Connie was a force to be reckoned with even in her later years. At age 83, after her husband passed, she continued to live in her own house for another 13 years. As part of maintaining her house, she secured grants, solicited quotes and oversaw contractors to do any necessary repairs. She always seemed to know who to call to get things done.
Connie was also an excellent seamstress and her sewing machine was always nearby to help anybody needing a canvas repair or something sewn.
Other fond memories of Mom include annual trips around the Cabot Trail and our annual family Christmas Eve lobster and steak supper.
Mom will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by the many lives she touched.
Special thanks to the staff at Saint Vincents Nursing Home for the wonderful care they provided for Mom during her time there.
Visitation will be held at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive Tuesday February 25th, 2-4pm.
Funeral Service will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, Shad Bay, Thursday February 27th, 11am.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
