MACDONALD, Ian Kenneth – 52, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2013, in the Palliative Care Unit, QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Halifax, he was a son of Daniel and Mary (Matthews) MacDonald, Fall River. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Maureen (Langdon) MacDonald, of Halifax, and his two amazing sons, Kevin (19) and Graham (15) of Middle Sackville. He is also survived by his brothers Gerry (Susan) and Danny (Karan), and sister Ruby (Jack) Brenton, along with his many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his Father-in-Law Rex Langdon, Brother-in-Law Paul (Debbie) Langdon, Sister-in-Law Patsy (Jay) Gorveatte.
Ian’s career began in 1981 as a Stationery Engineer with DND. He later moved on to Contracts at Shearwater, then most recently, he worked as Facilities Manager in Newport Corner up until the time of his illness.
Ian was a very hard working and conscientious man and helped to bring up their two sons with the same values and work ethics. Ian was a family man in every way. Maureen and the boys meant everything to Ian. They will be guided by him always. Kevin and Graham are well on their way to being the men that Ian intended. His legacy will live on through them.
Ian loved the outdoors. He was an avid ATV enthusiast and spent endless hours travelling the trails, always making their way back to the falls - Ian’s favourite place to spend time with his boys. They camped their entire married life and spent 14 years at Beech Brook Campground in Ardoise, NS where they developed many long lasting friendships.
Ian was also a huge NASCAR fan. He spent many years following those cars around the track, both on TV and in person. Some of his favourite drivers over the years were Bill Elliott, Rusty Wallace, and most recently Carl Edwards.
Ian spent many long nights at Scotia Speedworld working on and driving his number 77 hobby stock car. He has many trophies to show for his excellent driving skills from the 8 years he raced.
Many thanks to his family physician, Dr. Colin Davey, and the Palliative Care Team in the community and on 7A. Thanks also to all the loving friends and family who rallied around and helped the family through these many months. A special thanks to three of his closest friends, Buddy, Steve and Perry, for all the belly laughs they provided him during his illness.
