Jacqueline Mohanna

Born in Zahlé, Lebanon, on July 8, 1937, Jacqueline immigrated to Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1973, where she built a beautiful life surrounded by family and loved ones. She passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026, surrounded by her family and so much love.

Jacqueline was the second of seven children born to her loving parents, Sleiman and Marta Riachi, in a home filled with love, laughter, and stories. Her parents were hardworking, devoted to their Catholic faith and family, and instilled in their children a deep love of God and a spirit of service. Those early years shaped the woman she would become and remained an important part of who she was throughout her life. Although some of her memories began to fade in her final years, the memories she created for those around her will never be forgotten.

Jacqueline’s life was defined by her love and devotion to God, her family, and her friends. In her younger years, when she was in better health, she dedicated many years to the Ladies’ Auxiliaries Prayer Group. She loved going to church and continued to pray each day, her rosary always in her hand, when her health and mobility eventually prevented her from going out. She had a generous heart and found great joy in caring for the people she loved. Most of all, she adored her three precious grandchildren, who brought her immense happiness and were a constant source of pride. Her face would light up as soon as they walked into the room—she would always say they made her heart sing.

Before immigrating to Canada, Jacqueline and her husband were dedicated teachers who touched the lives of so many students. After coming to Nova Scotia, they worked tirelessly to provide their daughters with a safe and secure childhood, working long hours in their grocery store. They continued as small business owners in later years before eventually retiring.

Jacqueline was an incredible homemaker with many talents and took great pride in making her home a warm and welcoming place for her family. She was an avid gardener who loved growing vegetables and herbs, an extraordinary cook and baker, and a talented seamstress. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting, often creating beautiful and thoughtful pieces for those she loved. Her hands were rarely still, and her home was often filled with something growing, something baking, or something being lovingly made.

Jacqueline will be remembered for the love she gave so freely, the traditions she carried with her from Lebanon, and the warmth she brought into the lives of those around her. She will always be a source of love, strength, comfort, and laughter to her family.

She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 55 years, Hanna Mohanna; her loving daughters, Graziella (Colin Muise) and Sandrella (Adam Aulenback); her adoring grandchildren, Nadia, Matthew, and Jasmine; her dear sisters, Marie Riachi and Eva Hage (George Hage); and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Jacqueline was predeceased by her parents, Sleiman and Marta Riachi; her brothers, Nabih and Samir; and her sisters, Renée and Jeanne d’Arc.

Please join us in celebrating Jacqueline’s life and remembering the many years of love, laughter, and cherished memories she shared with those around her. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 2, from 5pm-8pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Mass will be held on Thursday, September 3, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lebanon Parish, 111 Clayton Park Drive, Halifax. Father Namatallah Eid officiating. Burial will be held at St. John’s Cemetery, 6 Bedford Highway.

Jacqueline’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the continuing care assistants, nurses, doctors, and unit staff of Northwood Bedford Ivany Place for the compassionate care, kindness, and dignity they provided to Jacqueline and her family. A special thank you to Courtney B., Courtney F., and Nadine for all the care you gave her. Mom loved singing her Arabic Catholic hymns and folksongs to you.
