It is with sadness that the family of James “Jim” Douglas Arthur Lowther announces the sudden passing of their husband, father and grandfather on Monday, November 2nd, 2020 at the age of 77. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Sherman and Margaret (Gamester) Lowther. Jim was enjoying his retirement after working at the Halifax Herald for over 30 years in the advertising department.
Jim enjoyed spending time watching and playing sports. His Sunday afternoons were often spent watching the various car races on TV. He was an athlete who excelled in many sports, with football being his favorite in his high school years. He was an avid member of the Mayflower Curling Club and ran the junior curling program for many years. Jim also enjoyed coaching competitive junior teams including those with his daughters.
Jim and his family lived for almost 50 years on Swan Crescent in the Bridgeview subdivision. During his many years living on Swan, he developed many close friendships which continued to the present day. In recent years, he sold the house and enjoyed the perks of apartment life. Those who knew him knew of Jim’s appreciation of his 85 Chev Silverado which was a love he shared with his nephew, Bruce.
Most of all, Jim loved spending time and talking with his grandchildren and the rest of his family. Despite the distances between them, he used FaceTime to hear all the latest happenings. Jim also enjoyed keeping in touch with friends and numerous former colleagues which included some close friends that he had known since childhood.
He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his wife, Linda (Best), his daughters, Kathy (Glenn Franck) and Susan (Scott Steeves), his grandchildren, Liam, Ethan, and Lily, his sister, Marjorie (McMaster) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Peggy (Margaret) McNeil.
Cremation has taken place and a service will be held at a later date when family and friends can safely be together.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s name to the charity of your choice. To view or place an online message of condolence please visit www.jasnowfuneralhome.com
