Dear Joan, I just learned late last evening that Jim has pass away. Our prayers and thoughts are with you, your daughter and your entire family. While it has been some time since our paths have crossed I was aware of Jim's illness and you both are often  in my thought and prayers. Jim was not only a dear friend and colleague  he was also one of my most valued mentors. I have nothing but fond memories of my career at Community Services especially when it came to Jim. He taught me so much and was very funny. When I worked at Head Office in the early years on most Friday's Jim and Dr MacKinnon would have conversations after work sometime for hours. On many occasions they would ask me to join them. I learned so much from these two gentlemen. Most importantly I learned that we need to take care of people less fortunate than ourselves. Community Services was not a career for Jim it was a calling. The people of Nova Scotia were indeed very lucky to have Jim as a senior leader in the public service. I am sure if one looked at a lot of  social programs today they would see Jim's fingerprints all over them.  Jim was one of a kind and I will always remember him fondly. If their is ever anything I can do please let me know.

Dear Joan:I was deeply saddened to read of JAA's untimely passing..as one of the 16 ministers he served I  know first hand what a loyal and effective public servant he was..it was my pleasure ,and indeed honor to have been part of his tenure in government.as. Fellow Invernesser and Scot (who knew dad the Rev.A.D. Gaelic college days)our association goes back a long way.His dry and witty sense of humor and common sense approach was very helpful and appreciated by me,and I am sure all others with whom he came in contact.
I send along my and Evelyn's deepest sympathy and condolences to you and all your family.
