Jim was born in Mulgrave, Nova Scotia, the second eldest of 11 children. He was predeceased by his parents, Gibbons and Mary Thompson and his brothers, Ronald and Gerry. Jim is survived by his wife, Ann of 63 years; his children, Heather (Rob), Judy and Robyn (Joan), grandchildren, Jillian, Cody, Marc and Ashton and great grandchildren, Luke and Colton; siblings, Mariam (Jim Sears), Leo (Sally MacLean), Joseph (Sharon Acker), Jack (Ruth), Lillian (George Mosher), Minnie (Bob MacDonald), Camilla (Charles Sutherland), Leonard and sister in law, Ann.
Jim worked for the Canadian National Railway for 44 years before he retired. When not working, he especially enjoyed the horse races, playing cards and supporting his favourite hockey and baseball teams/players. He was an avid outdoorsman who never missed an opportunity to go hunting and fishing. During his retirement he took every opportunity to pass his love of the outdoors on to his grandchildren.
Though generally quiet, especially when compared to the rest of the clan, he would on occasion regale those present with tales of his adventures with a twinkle in his eye and a ready laugh. Everyone loved a good Papa Jim story.
Thank you to Alex and to all the staff of the Halifax Infirmary 8.3. We are very fortunate to have such an amazing team of specialists working in our area and Jim was grateful to each and every one for the help he received.
