Janet grew up on Merkel Place in Halifax, the cherished only child of Albert and Pauline Isnor. Their home was full of warmth and activity, and she spent her childhood surrounded by family and friends.
In 1968, Janet married Robert (Bob) Rose. Together they raised three children, Kristann, Michelle, and Brian, and built a full and happy life in Halifax. She enjoyed travelling with Bob, summers at the cottage on Shortts Lake, and every chance to be with her family. Her children and her five grandchildren were among her greatest joys. She was enormously proud of each of them.
Janet trained as a registered nurse at the Halifax Infirmary, graduating in 1962, and later studied nursing science at Dalhousie University. She began her career in public health and, once her children were older, returned to nursing, spending more than 15 years in the field of psychiatry.
Janet had a lifelong love of music. She began violin lessons at the age of four and played throughout her life, even joining a fiddle group in her late 70s. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for more than 50 years and volunteered with Women for Music in Halifax. She even participated in a course at Saint Mary’s University with a group of friends in her 80s.
Janet had a wonderful disposition and a positive outlook that never left her, even in her final weeks. If you asked how she was doing, the answer was always the same: “Great.” She will be remembered for her warmth, her grace, and the way she made everyone around her feel at ease. Janet lived a life full of connection, and the people she met along the way stayed close to her for decades.
Janet is survived by her daughters, Kristann (Darren) and Michelle (Ian), both of Ottawa, and her five grandchildren: Lauren and Colin (Kristann), and Kendra, Macy, and Ainsley (Michelle).
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert (Bob) Rose (2015); her son, Brian (2003); and her parents, Albert and Pauline Isnor.
In her final months, Janet moved to Ottawa to be closer to her daughters. The family extends sincere thanks to Dr. Ray and the staff at Amica Westboro for the wonderful care they provided. Special thanks also to her cousins, Marie (Mimi) Lowe and Bob Doyle, for their love and support over the last several years in Halifax.
