

MACLEOD, Jessie Marina – 76, Halifax formerly of Port Hawkesbury passed away peacefully surrounded by her family August 12, 2011 at the QE2 Hospital after a courageous 9 year battle with cancer. Jessie was the daughter of the late Murdock and May (Nicolle) MacLeod of Mulgrave, NS. She received her RN from City of Sydney Hospital and worked as OR nurse in Sydney City and later practiced nursing in St. Catherine’s, Ont. and Halifax at the Victoria General. She graduated from Dalhousie University with her Public Health Diploma. She practiced Public Health Nursing in both Guysborough and Colchester-East Hants counties. She later worked as an industrial nurse at AECL in Point Tupper. She completed her nursing career at the Strait Richmond Hospital Primary Care Detox Centre. She was a long time member of St. Mark’s United Church in Port Hawkesbury. She lived every day to the fullest bringing joy and happiness to all those who had the privilege of knowing her. She is survived by her loving husband Cullen of 48 years; son Ian (Barbara) MacLeod, Truro; daughters Elaine (Michael) Smith and Sheena (Todd) Thompson both of Halifax. She also leaves her precious grandchildren Nicholas, Stephen and Rebecca MacLeod; Matthew Smith; Ethan Thompson. She will be deeply missed by her sister Mildred (Hector) Huntington, Sydney, NS where many summers were spent together on the Mira River. She is also survived by brother-in-law Don Curry his daughter-in-law Rose; sister-in-law Christine Langley and nieces Pam Burt of Toronto and Jean Brett of Halifax, also two special grand-nieces, Nicole Brett and Allie Burt. Besides her parents Jessie was predeceased by her brother Albert Barrie and wife Amelia, her sister Alice Curry; sister-in-law Ilene Beauchamp and nephew Glenn Curry. Her love of warm summer days will forever be remembered each time the sun sets over the water on the Mira River. Visitation will be Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011 2-4 and 6-8pm and funeral service Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011 2pm in JA Snow Funeral Home Chapel, 339 Lacewood Dr, Halifax. (455-0531) Reception to follow.
