Jill Margaret Langin (Chalker) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 14th, 2025 at the age of 84 years. Jill, the only daughter of J.R. Chalker and Margaret (Butt) Chalker, was born on Oct 09th, 1940, in St. John’s, Newfoundland. She is survived by her loving husband Clifford Langin, her sons Glenn (Heather) and Scott (Michele), her grandchildren Chance (Shianne), Jillann (Patrick), Janelle (Catlin), Savannah and Kayla, and her great-grandchildren Lena, Bryce, Luna, and Holly. Jill also leaves her brother Timothy (Judy), sister-in-law Elizabeth, and many nieces and nephews. Jill was predeceased by her only daughter Holly, her brother Richard, sister-in-law Marjorie (John), and brothers-in-law Robert (Geneva) and Hugh.
Jill was raised with a loving family in Newfoundland. She attended King’s Edgehill School in Nova Scotia during her youth where lifelong friendships were made. She returned to Newfoundland, and in October 1961 she had an especially busy week; as she celebrated her 21st birthday, married her love Clifford Langin, and graduated as a Registered Nurse. Together, she and Clifford followed opportunity and moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where they raised their children and enjoyed their community. Jill was a proud mother; she prioritized her family and created beautiful memories filled with fun and laughter. Always seeking balance in life, she climbed in her career as a nurse to working in management, then founded Quality Underwriting Services with her husband. Truly soul-mates, Jill and Clifford found endless support in each other and encouragement to grow, as they founded East Coast Mobile Medical in 1995 and both businesses continue to operate successfully.
Jill retired in 2010, although she never slowed down. She had many loyal friends and social engagements. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, participated in bowling leagues, often frequented Neptune theater, and spent many nights playing bridge with the girls. She enjoyed plenty conversations over tea and had an exceptional ability to listen and deliver jokes with perfect timing. Her quick wit was unmatched and put anyone in her presence at ease.
Nothing compared to her summers spent under the red roof in Harbourview. A paradise away from the city; Jill enjoyed many walks around the loop, playing shuffleboard and tennis, and hosting dinner with plenty of wine. She loved to read and often did while sitting on her porch as she greeted everyone as they walked by. A place where friends became family, and love spanned many generations. An honest tribute to the values Jill held close to her heart.
Jill provided a foundation of love and loyalty that her family are fortunate to have known. She had a giving nature and a way to inspire others with confidence to help themselves. She believed in doing her best, and made you believe your best was good enough. Just as her marriage provided to each other, Jill provided encouragement and support for growth to her children and grandchildren. Never one to wallow, her positive attitude was to be admired. Her family will remember her quiet strength and clever remarks. To have known Jill was a blessing, to have had her as a Mother and Nana was a true gift.
There will be a visitation at J.A Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, on Saturday January 18, 2025, from 4PM to 7PM.
