I am saddened to learn of my Drs passing 
She was a dedicated Dr to me for so many years 
My Dr for the birth of all of our children , Nyree , Matthew and Maria 
I think she favoured boys as Matthew was her favourite. she always said . I loved her so very much and miss her. I know she was devoted to her Mom , that I  always admired in her.  So very loving and caring and made me feel I was visiting an old friend 
May she be resting in peace my dear Doctor.

Dr. Cahill brought me into this world and was my family doctor until I moved away. She was an amazing person, so warm and caring. I actually used to look forward to seeing her as a child. She was so patient and always had time for me. She even had her own nickname for me which I've never forgotten. 

She was a special and wonderful person and she will be missed.

I remember going into Dr Cahill's office and seeing all the pictures of the babies she delivered, along with my 3 children. She was an amazing doctor and was soo easy to talk to regardless of the situation. I know this memory is very delayed but she was on my mind recently.   I was at 3D baby with my son and daughter in law and remember going into that office building to see Dr Cahill. 

Dr. Joan was my Dr. from the time I was 7 years old.  She was there for me during some very turbulent times in my younger years.  Always took my phone calls or called me back, could make me laugh and dried my tears. She was my confidant.  We even shared "cigarette" breaks during some visits. She delivered my children and told me I was a great mommy! One of the best things she ever said to me.  I'm so terribly sad to learn that I missed the news of her passing last year.  I thought of her so often since her retirement (which devastated me at the time). Please accept my condolences and know that Dr. Joan left a big void when she retired but she left an even bigger positive impact on so very many. RIP Dr. Joan!  Thank you for being you.

It is with deep regret that Doctors Nova Scotia received word of the death of your family member, Joan.  I know I speak for all of our members when I extend to you and your family the association's sincerest sympathy.

Doctors Nova Scotia has made a contribution to the Memorial Fund for Nova Scotia Physicians in memory of Joan.  The fund was established in 1975 to honour the memory of its deceased members.  The income from the memorial fund is used to support the education of students in the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University.

One caring, dedicated, thorough physician who could serve as a fine example to those who choose medicine as a profession. It was a "calling" not a job. I will miss her wonderful dry wit and remember fondly our trip to Montreal with her Mom. I still laugh out loud when I recall our adventures.

Dr. Joan, was my dr. for many years when I was a young girl. She was always easy to talk to and I felt a great sense of caring from her. She was a very down to earth person and a pleasure to know . Sadly missed REST IN PEACH Dr. Joan

I will never be able to express my extreme gratitude and appreciation for the excellent care that Dr. Cahill gave to me; in particular, during a very dark time in my life. Her's was the compassion, wisdom, perception and insight which diagnosed and treated me back to a full and joy-filled life and for that, I will be forever grateful! May God's angels care for her the way she did for so many and may her family take comfort in knowing what a positive difference she made in this world.

Dr.Cahill delivered me 39 years ago along with my siblings. She was such a wonderful woman and doctor. My name is Heather-Joan. My mother has helped to keep her alive in our memories. Though we no longer live in NS we have spoke fondly of Dr. Cahill many times and will continue to do so. Thoughts and prayers to her family. RIP

I had Joan for a doctor for many years while I lived in Halifax.  She had a deep commitment to every one of her patients, always had a smile for you when you met her on the street and touched the lives of all those who knew her.  I have tried to keep in touch with her thru my sister since moving out of Halifax years ago  She had a beautiful soul and loved a good joke.  I have had to call her at home on several occasions and she quickly helped me without a comment.  You will be deeply missed Joan.  You were an excellent doctor and a beautiful person!

Dr. Cahill was my physician for over 20 years, I couldn't have asked for a kinder, more caring physician and friend. She was what every physician today should aspire to be, a caring, thoughtful, thorough physician and a caring human.  She was truly one of a kind, and was missed when she retired.  My sincere condolences to Tom and family. She will be greatly missed.

Today is a beautiful day! The sun is shining, the air is crisp and tonight our family will gather to celebrate the life of our Great Aunt, Dr. Joan Cahill.
I am fortunate to come from a large family of strong, inspiring women, and Aunt Joan was an incredibly strong and inspiring woman. She was never shy and always told you the truth. She did what she believed was right, and made a difference in the lives of many. Something I strive to do. 
My Aunt Joan did great things. She held a degree from Dalhousie University in Pharmacology, then returned years later and was the only female in her class to graduate from Dalhousie Medical School in 1963. As a GP in Halifax, Aunt Joan delivered thousands of babies; my Mom, my brother, my sister and I included. Joan never had kids of her own, but took pride in helping others build their families. 
We will always remember you Aunt Joan; how the gifts you gave were always from Mills, your favourite store; how you wouldn't eat mashed potatoes, so Mom would bake you one at Christmas; your lipstick collection; how you helped your family when they needed you; and how, at the age of 82, you could remember every person you have ever met. We will remember you always.

I had the pleasure of having Joan as my first "real" doctor. She cared for my mom, my grandmother, my sister and her family and sometimes my brothers.  Few realize the challenges of being " the only female in her graduating class" .... I can only imagine what that was like.  She was a thoughtful and engaging health care professional, I think of her often in my career in health and education. She will be remembered by all of us who had the pleasure to call her "our doctor"

Today we celebrate the life of my aunt, Dr Joan Cahill. We had just celebrated her 82 birthday less than 2 weeks ago, she passed away peacefully on Thursday. Joan became a doctor in 1963 and was the only female in her class. This passed Christmas we had been looking at a picture of her graduating class, not only could she name everyone of them, first & last name, she had a story to tell about them all. As a physician for over four decades, her patients were more than patients, they became friends and she was engaged in every aspect of their lives. One can only imagine the number of children she delivered as a GP in Halifax throughout her long career, our best guess is in the 1000's and she could remember almost everyone. She had been my doctor until she retired, she delivered our three children, there was barely a week that went by without a medical question that needed answering, Joan was always there.
In life Joan loved, watching movies late at night, the taste of chocolate, roasted potatoes NOT mashed, fashion and the love of cloths, Spring Garden Road....Mills, The Cameo Restaurant, Pepe's, Winsbys, and her much loved poodle Cloe.

I was saddened to read of Dr. Cahill's passing. She was my Dr. for many years and delivered my daughter, who also became her patient. She had a great sense of humor. I cried like a baby when she retired. I have thought of her often over the years. My condolences to the family.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Cahill.....she became my family doctor in 1967 until she retired. She had a great sense of humor and we had lots of laughs over the years.  I will always remember those long waits in the waiting room but once you got in it didn't matter. Dr. Cahill brought my two children into the world, 1979. 1981 and she was a wonderful, kind, always smiling lady.  She never rushed our appointments and I can remember waiting till midnight one time for  an appointment !!! A special lady is now in heaven :)
