It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Kathleen Wells (née Wight), age 82, formerly of St. John’s, NL, announce her peaceful passing on September 18th, 2026, in the presence of her loving family.
Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great‑grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She found great joy in caring for her family and friends. She was a kind, gentle, and compassionate person who was always there for anyone in need of help or a shoulder to cry on. This was evident in the many volunteer groups she was involved with, including the Candlelighters Society, the Red Hatters, and the St. John’s 9/11 volunteer team, who provided care and support to the Plane People.
Joan is predeceased by her son, Steven; her parents, Ethel and Roy Wight; her stepfather, Stuart Bovard; and her mother‑ and father‑in‑law, Gladys and Alfred Wells. Leaving to mourn is her loving husband, Harry; her devoted children, Janice (Dan) and Jennifer (Dave); her cherished granddaughters, Heather (Michael), Spencer, and Makenzie; and her great‑grandchildren, Joshua, Kaeson, and Paige.
Also left to mourn are her siblings Roy (Joan), Harold (Trixie), Betty (predeceased by Maurice), Don (Ronnie), and Ted (Lisa); her sisters‑ and brothers‑in‑law Phyllis (predeceased by Max), Betty (Ted), Gord (Lorraine), Bob, Gerald (Donna), and Jeanette (Ernie); as well as many nieces, nephews, and a large circle of extended family and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Centennial Hospital (QEII) for their kindness and support.
Cremation has taken place, as per her wishes. Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home on Thursday, September 24th, 2026, from 2:00–4:00 p.m., at 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
In remembrance of Joan, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
