He grew up in the city and attended Dalhousie University whilst also working as a technician at the fledgling radio station CJCH. Upon graduation, he taught for several years before moving on to teach at the University of Wisconsin. This lasted for three years after which he moved his family to Ottawa where he was the head of the geography department at Confederation High School. He remained in this position until his retirement in 1989. John also held a pilot’s licence for many years and greatly enjoyed being a ham radio operator.
Upon retiring, he and Jacqueline, moved to Kentville, Nova Scotia. Here he became engaged with the Rotary Club as well as being on the finance committee of the Acadia Performing Arts Series of The Landmark East School.
Both he and Jacqueline loved to travel where their adventures saw them traversing the globe. They had a soft spot for the Barbados and England and spent a lot of time in these two locales. His last decade saw him living with Jacqueline at Parkland at the Gardens in Halifax.
John was predeceased by Jacqueline and leaves behind a daughter Genevieve (Tim), a son David (Rebecca) and two grandchildren, Michelle and Patrick (Bere).
