

Jack was born to Dr. Donald Lauchlin and Lavinia B. (Adams) MacKinnon in Truro, Nova Scotia on March 31, 1928. He studied at Mount Alison University, where in addition to his Academic pursuits he participated in a number of sports, and went on to complete his Diploma in Pharmacy from the Maritime College of Pharmacy. He and his wife Maxine operated White Cross Pharmacy in Fairview for close to forty years. The community of Fairview meant a lot to Jack, and whether it was through meeting him at the Pharmacy or through his numerous volunteer activities, particularly the Centennial Arena Rink Commission, all who knew him came to love his contagious laughter and respect his commitment to community.
Jack is predeceased by his wife Maxine (Wilson), Sister Patricia (MacKinnon) Spicer and brother Donald MacKinnon. He is survived by his children Alexander (Susan), David (Adrienne) and Joanne Troke (Dan); Grandchildren Anna, Carolyn, Stephanie, Ian, Danny, Laura and John.
We would also like to thank the wonderful staff at the Adelaide, in particular the late owner Janet Ozone, whose hard work created a caring atmosphere which enabled many to enjoy Jack’s company and laughter for a number years.
Visitation will be held Sunday Jan 1, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at JA Snow Funeral Home 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS. The Funeral Service will be Monday Jan 2, at 1pm at Fairview United Church. The burial and celebration of life will take place in the Spring in Lake Ainslie Cape Breton, details to follow.
