POIRIER, John Kenneth (B.A., LLB)— Beloved husband of Louise Walsh Poirier, Q.C. and father of Kenneth Mark and Neil Reginald, 53, passed away suddenly on Friday, January 15, 2010, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Halifax, he was the youngest son of the late Jean-Paul Alfred Poirier and the late Jean Lois (Hannan) Poirier. Before graduating from Saint Marys University and Dalhousie Law School (1984), John worked at various jobs including respiratory technician at the former Halifax Infirmary on weekends through Law School. He joined the legal department at the Nova Scotia Power Corporation upon completing his articles. He traveled to many foreign countries as part of his work. He made many friends at the Power Corporation and found his work there very fulfilling. He worked extensively on the team tasked with implementing the privatization of the Power Corporation. He then moved to the Nova Scotia Association of Health Organizations, where he worked for the past 13 years as a highly respected consultant specializing in labour negotiations in the health care sector. He leaves behind many friends there. John was interested in everything and did everything with ease. He loved following in his fathers footsteps in woodworking, playing the guitar and singing, especially with his wife Louise. He was an unpretentious, straightforward, hardworking person, a supportive, involved husband and father. John loved photography, tending his fish pond and gardens, attracting birds to his feeders, and building and fixing things with his sons Ken and Neil, passing along to them the love of music he inherited from his father. He traveled far and wide with his family on many adventures. Every weekend he and his brother Mark found a new hiking trail to explore. John is survived by his loving wife, Louise; his sons, Ken and Neil; his sister, Paula Ross (Tom), and his brother, Mark (Martha), and beloved nieces and nephews in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, and leaves behind cherished friends. Visitation is in the chapel at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax at 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.
