78, of Windsor, NS, passed away on October 19. Judy grew up in Halifax and moved to Ellershouse in 1974 with her husband to raise their children. When her husband (Len), passed away in 2017, she moved to Windsor.
Judy volunteered at her children’s elementary school for 25 years. She was also a Sunday School teacher, Girl Guide Leader, a volunteer with the local Air Cadet Squadron and with local political campaigns over the years.
Judy loved to bake and her butter tarts were well tested in the area and were known to be flown across the country from time to time. Over the years, she shared this love of baking with many children, teaching them the basics in her kitchen.
During their retirement, they enjoyed long drives for tea, camping at Graves Island and their trailer at Whales Creek. In April of 2017 Judy and Len celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. The song Judy choose for their anniversary was Garth Brook’s “The Dance” – ‘…And now I’m glad I didn’t the way it all would go…Our lives are better left to chance. I could have missed the pain, but I’d have to miss the dance’. Through all the ups and downs, there was love and of course, a homemade cookie or two.
Judy is survived by her sons Wayne (Prema), Whites Lake and Kevin, Calgary, daughter Karen, Ellershouse, granddaughter Vanessa and several nieces and nephews. (Since she left her daughter in charge of submitting this notice, she is also survived by her grand-fur babies, Jeremiah and Clyde.)
Judy Is predeceased by her parents, Kaye and Clary MacDonald, brother Dennis and sister Joan Jewers.
Cremation has taken place, no visitation or flowers by request.
A small celebration of life will be announced at a later date in Ellershouse.
Donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Cancer Society or the Children’s Wish Foundation.
*We will be holding an informal Celebration of Life for Mom on Friday, October 29 from 2pm to 4pm at the Ellershouse Community Hall. If possible, please indicate the time slot you expect please call/text 902-579-7652 with your time (2pm to 3pm or 3pm to 4pm) as there can only be 25 people at any given time inside. As long as the weather remains decent, we will have outside space as well to allow everyone to attend. We will come up with an alternate plan on the outside if necessary. The Hall must abide by the Province's requirements so please be prepared and respectful of these requirements if you wish to visit inside. I will be outside to see everyone, I know Mom would want everyone to feel welcome.
