Age 74. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our light and love mother on June 11, 2020. Born in Halifax on March 28, 1946, she was predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Mary Langlois; sisters, Adelle Walsh and Alice Langlois.
Momma fought valiantly through her battle with cancer, and succumbed to the disease peacefully surrounded by her family. Kassie was loved by all that came in contact with her. She was the rock for so many over the years and always put everyone before herself. Her caring nature drew everyone to her and she was known as the "mother" to many of her children's childhood friends. She loved to sing, and she was so joyful to watch Mamma Mia the night before her passing and it was fitting that she had her last meal from Johnny's, her favorite restaurant on Almon Street. She had a heart of gold and was so generous, she was often seen giving "coins" to children in her extended family, and always bought presents for people "just because".
She will be greatly missed. Kassie is survived by her sisters, Mary Strong, Halifax; Yvonne (Edward) Mason, Halifax; daughter, Lynne-Anne Salterio Gerhardt (Jamie Schneiderman), Dartmouth; sons, Jeff Salterio (Michelle Bellefontaine), Prospect Bay; and Paul (Alison) Nicolls, Barbados; her lifelong friend and ex-husband, Mike Salterio, Halifax; and grandson, Jamie Johnston (Michelle Ruggles), Lunenburg; along with her great-grandchildren, Amora, Jenna and Kate; step grandchildren, Travis Gerhardt, Dartmouth; Courtney, Kyle, Emily MacMullin and children, Halifax.
Special thanks to all those who supported us during this difficult time, we truly appreciate it. Due to Covid-19 there will be no funeral service, we will be doing a Celebration of Life in the summer once we can all come together safely.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canadian Cancer Society. "Butterflies will appear when Angels are near"
