It is with a sad heavy heart we mourn the passing of Kathy Fanning, 68 years old. Born on Edward Street, Halifax, you might say she was a Southender… Her parents were Jack and Claire (Muise) Fanning, brother John Fanning and sister Mary Lee Fanning. Kathy had an enviable way of meeting and keeping lifelong friends. Canadian Martyrs, Soccer, school… you know who you are: Lynn Meens, Laurie Clarke, Leslie Samson. She loved to read, watch murder mysteries and her FINN, her baby. She is survived by John Fanning (brother), niece Heather Mitchell (Sean) and two sweet great nieces, Chloe Mitchell and Ella Mitchell. Her nephew Logan Fanning, one of the kindest nephews ever. She adored them all.
Kathy worked at the Victoria General for years until she went to the Halifax Infirmary to work until she retired after 40 years. She kept in touch with a lot her coworkers and school friends. She knew a lot of people and if she didn't John did. She was a part of the Smith family, whether she wanted to be or not...Anne Smith, David (Debbie) Smith, Lisa Cosgrove (Kevin) and Wayne Smith (Joanne) and half of Clare District.
Last but not least we have to thank the doctors and nurses from Cardiology for the care and compassion Kathy received from them. Hats off to them. She worked in that department for 40 years and they returned the favor with kindness and efficiency. It’s safe to say we will miss Kathy forever. She was a bright light in our lives. Rest in peace until we meet again. We will all miss our Chatty Kathy. Especially Finn and Anne.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society. A celebration of Kathys life will be held at JA Snow funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, on Saturday July 11 from 2-4pm.
