It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Laura Margaret (Kelly) Butler. Laura was born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, the middle child of George and Ruth Kelly in a family of six. She had a strong Catholic faith living across the street from the church.
Laura graduated in 1961 at Halifax Infirmary Nursing School. She met Peter at the Newman Club and has been happily married for 62 years. They loved travelling and have visited many countries.
She loved gardening and was interested in crafts, knitting, painting, and her Advent and Lenten projects. Laura and her sisters had a wonderful time together exploring genealogy and visiting Ireland to find their Irish relatives. She was a generous person. Making others happy brought her joy.
Laura is survived by her husband, Peter, and their six children, Colleen, Adrian (Susan), Jennifer, Christina (Bill), Sam (Brenda), George, and her two sisters Bernadette and Pat. Mom was predeceased by her parents, George and Ruth (Sayer) Kelly, her brother George, and sisters, Mary Lou and Frances. She was blessed with nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
She was a published author, with her work featured in Living With Christ, Oct. 20, 2020.
She said, “I have had a full life with many happy memories“. Our family thanks the palliative care team at the VG who were involved in her care.
Funeral service 10:30 am Thursday February 20,2025 at Stella Maris Parish, 14 St Michaels Avenue, Spryfield, reception to follow.
