Laurie passed away, peacefully, at the QEII Hospital, March 16, 2022, surrounded by family and friends. Laurie was born in Halifax, to William and Jean (Pollock) Cochrane, on June 6, 1952. He graduated from St. Patrick’s High School and attended St. Mary’s University before being employed by Tip Top Taylor’s. Shortly after he was gravely injured in a car accident in August of 1973 and suffered a traumatic brain injury. With the strength, determination and love of his devoted mother, Laurie emerged from a one and half year coma to beat all odds for recovering from this devastating injury. Through the efforts of his mother, and his flat mate Howie Bennett’s wife, Glenda, in affiliation with the amazing Support Services Group caregivers (Laurie’s second family), Laurie was able to live a rewarding and productive life. He brought joy to everyone he met. Surrounded by love, Laurie went on to accomplish in forty-nine years what very few with his disabilities have been able to accomplish. The mere fact of living a life well for this length of time speaks to the devotion of his mother and Glenda, family and friends. Laurie was predeceased by his parents, and his youngest brother William (Bill). Laurie is survived by his brothers Paul (Marianne), Phillip (Jan), Bill’s wife Maylene, his flatmate, Howie Bennett, Stephen Landry and his nieces and nephews: Natalie, Lorie Jean, Matthew, Erin, Adrianne, Jessica, Zachary and their families, along with many cousins and extended family. Laurie wanted to especially thank his second family, the SSG family, for surrounding him with the love and care he has received that allowed him to live the best life possible. As there were so very many caregivers over the years, it is impossible to list all of your names here, but you know who you are and the love Laurie had for you. There will be a visitation at Snow’s Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax on Thursday March 24th , 3 to5 PM. Covid Masking and proof of vaccination is strongly requested by the family. Family flowers only. Donations to the Support Services Group in Laurie’s memory would be appreciated and can be made at www.ssgns.ca
