

Oakley, Lawrence Alexander - 76 of Williamswood passed away July 29, 2011 at home surrounded by his family after a long term battle with lung cancer. Born in Halifax, he was the son of Charles and Elsie (Wambolt) Oakley. He attended Halifax Vocational School and for many years was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers until his retirement in his early 70”s. Lawrence was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed bowling and playing crib. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marie (Ettinger), daughters Brenda (Donald) Stewart and Amanda (Terry) Hunter, son Dean (Ernestine) Oakley, grandchildren Natalie, Melissa, Alexandra and Wesley, sisters Iona McCarthy, Cynthia(Andy)Obbema and Beverley(Gus Brooks)Oakley. He was predeceased by both of his parents, brothers Godfrey and Llewellyn, sisters Deanna Claridge and Blanche Micheau. A visitation to celebrate Lawrence’s life will be held in J A Snow Funeral Home 339 Lacewood Dr Hfx NS (455-0531) Tuesday, August 2, 2011 from 7-9pm for family and friends. A committal service will be held in St. John the Baptist Church in Latties Brook (Maple Grove) Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011 at 10am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
