

— 70, Halifax, passed away suddenly in the QEII Hospital December 27, 2009. Born in Yarmouth February 19, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ida (Brewer) Smith. Leta graduated from Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School and received a bursary to complete a two year course as an x-ray technician at the Victoria General Hospital where she later worked. After the birth of her two children she volunteered much of her time in support of their church, athletic, musical and school activities. Later in life she became interested in film work as an extra and participated in over 30 movies and print ads as an apprentice member of ACTRA. Leta was also very involved in working for the Simulated Patient Program. Leta was physically fit her whole life and was a regular fixture at the Waegwoltic Club as an avid tennis player. The last years of her life she traveled extensively and loved spending time with her dear companion, Mr. Kevin Power, who also cared for her immensely. Leta was a gregarious, energetic and fun loving person, quick to smile. She was a particularly good communicator, always ready to talk and to listen. You will always be remembered as the most devoted mother anyone could be. We are devastated by this loss. We love you, Mom. Surviving are daughter, Patricia Anne and son-in-law, Oleg Vorobyov, Russia; son, Sean Michael and daughter-in-law, Lilian Pedrosa, Brazil; grandchildren, José Patrick, son of Sean and Lilian. Predeceased by her brother, Donald Smith. Visitation will be held Friday, January 1, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St. Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 2, 10 a.m. in Canadian Martyrs Catholic Church, Father James Mallon officiating.
