Linda Ann Mills

Linda was born in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland to Rowland and Theodora Mitchell. In 1969, she left Cornerbrook for St. Johns, where she trained as a Registered Nurse at the St. John’s General Hospital. She worked in Emergency and then became Head Nurse at St. Clare’s Hospital, a post which she held for 5 years. During this time, Linda met the love of her life, Harold Mills. They married in 1980 and started their family. Son Andrew was born in 1981 and Matthew followed in 1982. With their family complete, Linda, Harold and the boys moved to Halifax in 1990. Looking to become involved in her community, Linda went to the rec centre, where she made many good friends. Always one to share her talents, Linda taught quilting and crafts at various community centre halls in Halifax. She belonged to and became a member of the Nimble Thimbles, a group of wonderful women, whose company she enjoyed for many years. In 1991 Linda resumed her work life at Northwood as a part-time hospice palliative care nurse. She loved working at Northwood, taking all the skills she learned over the years of her nursing career and applying them with heart, empathy and compassion for the residents and families whose lives she touched. Some of those relationships carried on after her retirement. Linda was instrumental in teaching palliative care and pain management courses throughout the Atlantic provinces and was often consulted by professionals in her retirement.

After taking early retirement Linda and Harold moved to the family cottage in Marriotts Cove. She designed, planted and tended the most beautiful garden, the envy of the neighbourhood. She was able to devote her time to her artistic side by joining the Mahone Bay quilters and not only teaching but having her work displayed in juried quilt shows. Linda increased her social circle and quickly adapted to life in the Cove, with Harold becoming part of the golf group and Linda part of the social groups. Her Christmas parties were not to be missed!! A huge part of Linda’s days were spent with many friends from the Bridge community, a game she came to love. She could often be found sitting at a table at Bridge World or Bridge Studio.

Linda loved bridge with the same zest that she loved all the other social endeavors. During Covid, Linda began to play bridge online and organized many games for her many friends, through Bridge Based Online. Linda was also an avid and voracious reader, and she enjoyed discussing her favorite authors.

Family meant everything to Linda, and she was over the moon when her first granddaughter Julia was born, followed by Eleanor, Arthur and Florence. Her huge circle of friends loved spending time with her. Linda’s laugh was contagious and her kindness and thoughtfulness made her the “go to” person if you needed a lift. Many of her friends shared Linda’s love for shopping and several times per year the vehicle would make its way to the States, with memories being made at Marden’s, the Noodle Bowl and Marshalls. Linda was a true gift to whomever knew her.

Missing her forever are her husband of 46 years Harold Mills, sons Andrew (Alison), Matthew (Amanda), grandchildren Julia, Eleanor, Arthur, and Florence, and sister Karen Mitchell (Newfoundland). Linda was predeceased by her parents and younger brother David. Her friends and extended family will miss her dreadfully.

A funeral service will be held at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr, Halifax on September 24, 2026, at 10 am, and will be officiated by Reverend Jim Anderson. A reception will follow immediately after the service.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Linda to Souls Harbour Rescue Mission or Halifax Hospice.
