

Spencer, Lorna Gertrude, age 95, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2014, in Parkstone Enhanced Care with son, Philip and daughter-in-law, Barbara by her side. Lorna was born in Hastings, Annapolis County, in 1918 and was a daughter of Margaret H. (Rood) and Wilbur Burton Sherrard.
She graduated from Kings County Academy. In 1944, she married Harold F. Spencer of Halifax. Lorna was active in St. Andrews United Church, taught Sunday school and was a member of the U.C.W. Unit J. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Evening Star Chapter 28, past matron, grand chaplain, DDGM and Grand Representative of Vermont.
Lorna was an accomplished dress maker and loved to play the piano. Lorna and Harold travelled extensively and in the summer enjoyed relaxing at their cottage in Fall River.
She is survived by sons, David (Vicky), Philip (Barbara); daughter, Diane McMahon; 6 grandchildren, Pat, Tim, Erin and Rick McMahon, Chris and Nora Spencer; 6 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Her husband Harold passed away in 2002. She was also predeceased by sister, Gwen McGee and bother, Wilbur Sherrard.
Services will be held in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax, (455-0531) on Friday, May 16th with the Eastern Star service at 1:30 pm and memorial service at 2:00 pm. The service will be officiated by her nephew, The Reverend Jack Spencer of PEI. Burial will follow the service and reception.
