Lorraine was born in Charlottetown, PEI on November 8th, 1928. She grew up on the Island and graduated from St Dunstan’s University (now UPEI) in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science cum laude. This was the first ever University graduating class which included females, since the conclusion of WWII.
Lorraine went on to Halifax’s Maritime College of Social Work (now Dalhousie) and received a Diploma of Social Work in 1950. She worked her entire career with the Department of Public Welfare, Halifax. Lorraine met her future husband Conway (another social worker) and they married in 1956. She then stayed very busy raising the couple’s four children.
Lorraine was an avid bridge player and enjoyed the social gatherings even more. She was a diligent knitter for family and friends and made the best chocolate chip cookies in the neighbourhood. Left unattended, the raw cookie dough would vanish before getting to the oven. Lorraine enjoyed the many family gatherings, always with a smile and a small glass of wine. She kept her sense of humor right to her final days.
Lorraine was a lifelong member of St Lawrence Parish and volunteered with Hope Cottage and the Parish Ladies’ Group.
Many thanks to the caring and loving staff at the Halifax Infirmary, Unit 8.4. They made Mom comfortable as her health declined.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Heart & Stroke Foundation”.
The Funeral mass will be held at Saint Benedict, 45 Radcliffe Dr., Halifax, on Monday November 18, 2019 at 1:00 PM. Father Owen Connolly presiding. The Family invites everyone to a reception in the church hall after Mass. Interment at the Gate of Heaven, Lower Sackville, will follow the reception.
