On 17 May 2026, Lorraine Koehler passed away peacefully in Halifax, Nova Scotia after a brief battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Lorraine lived life to the fullest alongside her loving husband of 62 years, Grant Koehler. During Grant’s career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, they lived in many cities across Canada from British Columbia to Newfoundland, creating lifelong friendships wherever they went. With her warm spirit, friendliness, and generous heart, Lorraine loved welcoming people into her home. Those fortunate enough to spend time with her enjoyed her hospitality, delicious home-cooked meals, and lively kitchen and dance parties that left lasting memories for all who attended.
Lorraine was known by everyone she met as someone who would do anything to help others — a truly kind soul. Her special outlook on life always allowed her to see the good in people. She devoted many hours to their parish and volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul food banks in her beloved hometown of Harbour Grace, Newfoundland.
Lorraine was predeceased by son Paul and her parents, Jack and Gertrude St. John (Yetman). Lorraine cherished her sons and their families. She is survived by Cecil (Debbie), Bill (Suzanne), Steve (Anita) and Rob (Nancy). She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren Natasha, Ryan, Matthew, Bryer, Kaleigh, Trevor, and Ben, as well as her great-grandchildren Jacob and Dominic. Lorraine is also survived by her loving sister Alice (John), and her brother Joe (Daisy), brother-in-law, Bill (Sandy) nieces and nephews Paul, Heather, Kathy, and Rob, Brian, Alexandra, Aiden, Jason and Catherine.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Canada or your local food bank.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers and hospital staff for their care and support. The special East Coast hospitality Lorraine shared with so many throughout her life was returned to her in her time of need.
