BENOIT (Purcell), Margaret R. – 90, of Whites Lake, passed away in White Hills Long Term Care where she resided. On June 10, 2012 our sweet, loving, precious Mom, Nanny, Sister and Friend went home to be with the true love of her life, Dad.
Mom, with the love and understanding that she always had, accomplished the most difficult task that anyone could ever achieve, raise nine children on her own after Dad passed away at the young age of 42.
She devoted her life to her family and would help anyone who needed it. She loved playing cards and especially on Sunday’s at her place. You never knew who would show up for a game of crib or poker and ate the leftovers and sweets that she always had. You would never leave Mom’s house hungry and no one could cook like she did.
Mom looked forward to Christmas, when all the family would gather at her place and enjoyed seeing each other. If you didn’t get there early to get a seat, it was standing room only.
She was a devoted member of St. Joseph’s Church, The Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary and many other organizations where she volunteered her time and talents. Mom enjoyed bowling, and bowled in leagues up to three times a week. She loved to walk and take bus trips with her friends and visit new places.
To know Mom was to love her and anyone who had the great privilege to know her, did. Mom leaves warm memories and wonderful times in all of us that will never be replaced.
Mom leaves behind her children, Ronnie (Gerry), Peggy (John) Dorey, Gerald “Tubby”, Linda (Cec) Mitchell, Arthur (Carolyn), Pearl (Albert) Murphy, John (Joanne), Donnie (Melanie), Richard and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren who adored her; also brothers Alfred Purcell, Frank and Cyril Robichaud; sisters Sylvia Jackson, Pearl Campbell and Dot Hagey.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Bert, parents Muriel Purcell-Robichaud and Arthur Purcell and sister Marie Sullivan and brothers Harold and Bob Purcell.
We would like to thank the staff at White Hills Long Term Care Centre for the loving, compassionate care you gave Mom and the support you gave all of us. To Dr. Bergen, thank you for your gentle guiding in this journey we have taken with Mom.
There will be visitation on Thursday, June 14th from 2-4 & 7-9pm in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax (902) 455-0531. Funeral Mass Friday, June 15th at 10:00am in St. Joseph’s Church, Shad Bay. Cremation to follow.
