It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear mother, Margaret May Bond on June 5, 2025. Born in Upper Rawdon, Hants Co., on April 9, 1932, she was the daughter of the late John and Edith Bond.
She is survived by daughters, Lorna D’Orsay and Thelma Cluett (Robert Chisholm) and sons, Elmer Anthony and Eric Anthony (Millie) as well as grandchildren, Vernon MacPhee, Steven and Bryan Anthony, Sandra Wood, great grandson, Samuel MacPhee, her older sister, Connie Hiscock and son in law, David Henri. She was predeceased by her daughter, Rose; and sons in law, Ronnie Cluett and Ed D’Orsay; sister, Dora Roulston and brother, Albert Bond.
In 1966, Margaret bravely moved her family to Halifax where she lovingly raised her three youngest children with the help of her daughter Rose, while upgrading her education and working at the VG Hospital, and later the Halifax Infirmary until her retirement.
Margaret loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Europe, US and across Canada. She was an avid Blue Jay’s fan and loved watching their games.
Margaret was a long time, life member of Mayflower Quilters. She made many beautiful quilts of which she loved giving to her family. She has some that won awards as well as many that have homes around the world. In past years she loved going to quilt retreats, shows and many shopping trips to Maine with her daughters, Lorna and Thelma. A highlight for her was the bus tour with other quilters to the famous Paducah Quilt Show in Paducah, Kentucky, known as the quilt capital of the world. She enjoyed a second trip to Paducah with her daughter Rose and David.
She also loved rug hooking and enjoyed giving her beautiful rugs to her children. In recent times, Mum went back to knitting and enjoyed giving her knitted dishcloths to her children, friends, caregivers and anyone who crossed the door. Mum was never one to sit idle.
A special thank you to her wonderful caregivers, Beth Lahey, June Black, Debra Bradley, and Bella Muhayitrto whose loving care for Mum helped us fulfill her wish to stay in her home the last few years of her life.
A memorial service will be held on Friday June 13, 2025 at 10am in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Reception to follow
