It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, M. Richardine Brousseau, who died peacefully at Parkstone Enhanced Care in Clayton Park on March 9th surrounded by her loving children. Many thanks and sincere appreciation to all the staff at Parkstone Enhanced Care for their tireless support over the past few years of her residency there. She was born and grew up in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island and attended Norte Dame Academy. She was so proud to receive a medal from Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother when she presented the Royal Couple with flowers during the Royal Tour of 1939. In her teens, she worked at Island Tel as a switch board operator. Here she met and chummed around with her life-long best friend, Iris Gorman. When she was 22, she traveled to Halifax to marry and eventually raise four lucky children. She was the best mother we could have wished for: always doing her best to make every Christmas, Easter and birthday extra special. On a shoe-string budget, she managed to keep an immaculate home, provide all the needs and most of the wants of her children and husband and always with a smiling, happy face. She was a fantastic cook and would occasionally grant us a choice of any recipe from her many cookbooks. Her after Sunday Mass dinners were memorable as are the many poems she wrote on various topics. In her later years she worked as the top sales person for Scotia Festival of Music. Oldest daughter of the late Percy and Hilda (MacCallum) Walsh, pre-deceased by William, her husband of 53 years, Ricky is survived by sons Dean (Mary Nell Raphael), Dana (Chau Que), daughters April (Joe Shea), Cheryl, brother Leonard, sister Penny Stevenson (nee Walsh), grandchildren Lee, Jessica, Anton and Aria, great-grandchildren Joshua, Alexa and Levi. A memorial Mass celebrating Ricky’s life will be held in the early summer and will be announced at that time. in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Speroway Canada or a favourite charity of your choice.
