It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Marg, who passed away at the QE2 Hospital on June 3rd at age 86. Born in Cornerbrook, NL, she was the fifth of eleven children of Alexander and Frances “Fanny” Tiller.
As a young girl, Marg spent a great deal of time at the Salvation Army, where she began her journey in the service of others. This led to her moving to Halifax to train as a nurse. She graduated from the Halifax Children’s Hospital in 1965, and that September married the love of her life Peter Carlos.
In 1972, Marg left nursing to raise her family and, once her children were old enough, her love of caring for others drew her back to nursing and she re-certified in 1987. Her second career as an R.N. was at the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital, where she cared for her “old guys”, and retired in 2011 at age 71.
Marg is predeceased by her husband Peter, and siblings Sam (Rosemary)Tiller, Joan (Abraham) Kean, and Isabel (Gordon) Budgell, and brother-in-law Dave Callahan. She is survived by her siblings Garfield (Mary) Tiller, Violet Callahan, Dick (Lucy) Tiller, Lou (Lisa) Tiller, George (Dawne) Tiller, Paul (Ruth) Tiller, Sharon (Dave) Higdon; her children Peter (Carla-Ann), Anne (Jamie Bradley), and Martin (Melissa); and grandchildren, Melissa, Josh, Jennie, Kiara, Ben, Charlie, and Tristan.
Marg loved the sun and often basked outside while reading a good book. In more recent years, Marg was known by friends and neighbours as the smiling walker and could always be found strolling in the sunshine. She fiercely loved and adored her family, both immediate and extended, and would visit her children and grandchildren no matter how far away they lived.
A great lover of games, Marg looks forward to beating Peter at cribbage and Yahtzee once again.
A celebration of Marg’s life will be held from 10:00am-12:00 pm, with remarks at 10:30 on July 3rd at the J. A. Snow Funeral Home at 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Nurses Foundation would be appreciated.https://cnf-fiic.ca/donate/
