at the age of 90. She was the daughter of the late Stephen Power; Herring Cove,NS and Violet
(Haydock) Power; Lancashire, England. Born August 29th, 1931 in Halifax, Margaret spent
much of her childhood at the family home built by her father in Herring Cove. Upon his death
when she was 14 years old Margaret and her mother moved back to Halifax. On September
14th, 1957 Margaret married the love of her life Andrew “Scott” Gilbert(Parrsboro,NS) in Halifax

Margaret loved hosting large family get-togethers and took advantage of every birthday or
anniversary to bring together her family and spoil them with her home cooked meals and baked
goods. She enjoyed painting, crafting, sewing, reading and loved a good walk on the beach.
She never missed an opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren
and always seemed to have one or more of them sleeping over. Margaret enjoyed taking scenic
drives along the water, especially out to their favorite spot; Peggy’s Cove.
Margaret had a long career as an accountant and property manager, first with Centennial
Properties and then with Revenue Properties. She worked at the Department of Motor Vehicles,
Provincial Department of Finance and lastly retired from the Department of Transportation.
Margaret developed a love of travel early on that continued throughout her lifetime. She
travelled several times with her mother to England and with her young family to Sherwood
Forest Campground and East LaHave. Later in life Margaret and Scott “flew south” in the winter
to Myrtle Beach and Florida. They made many lifelong friends on their travels. Margaret could
always be counted on for a story from their adventures over a tea with a piece of her delicious
pound cake.
