Marie "Lorraine" Vaillancourt

Born on July 25, 1941, in Saint Alphonse, Nova Scotia she was one of eight children to the late Joseph Geddry and Mary Geddry (née Saulnier).

In the 1960s, she moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia where she worked at the old Children’s Hospital in the Dietary Department. Through friends, she met the love of her life, Michel Vaillancourt; they married on July 20, 1968. During their 58 years of marriage, they had two wonderful children, Michel and Nicole, and her husband’s Naval career took them to Victoria, British Columbia and Plymouth, England but they eventually settled in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia.

Lorraine was a homemaker for many years. She went on to work at Sears and Blue Ocean Contact Center (for Tourism Nova Scotia) where she genuinely loved the work she did and the people she worked with.

Lorraine loved to travel and was able to see many places across the world including Australia, Cuba, Las Vegas, and Louisiana. She also thoroughly enjoyed music (her favourite being Elvis Presley), baseball, crafting (she did everything from painting ceramics to knitting, sewing, and quilting) and hosting family. She especially loved running the roads and playing the slot machines at the Casino with her sister Rose.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Michel; children, Michel (Christine) and Nicole (Paul); grandchildren, Alyssa, Jean-Michel, Anthony (Tara), Thomas (Justyce), and Jonathon (Latoyia); great-grandchildren, Quinn, Todd, Emily, Henry, and Eleanor; siblings, Edward (Annette), Rosetta, and Ray; her adopted son, Kevin, as well as her many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary Geddry; siblings, Victor, Julie, Pierre, and Peter; in-laws, Aiméa Vaillancourt and Jeanne Vaillancourt (née Asselin), and son-in-law, Todd Stoneman.

Lorraine will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and everyone her life touched. Her memory will live on as she loved everyone with her entire heart and soul.

Her family would like to thank the nurses on 8.2 at the Halifax Infirmary for the exceptional care they provided during her final days. The compassion you had for everyone did not go unnoticed and they are deeply grateful for everything.

A celebration of Lorraine’s life will be held at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr, Halifax, NS on September 18, 2026, at 10:00am with a reception to follow.
