Marilyn Anne Beaton

Originally from Springhill Nova Scotia, Marilyn was the daughter of the late Frederick “Ted” Hunter and Violetta (Clark) Hunter, and sister to Brenda O’Brien of Springhill. Marilyn graduated from Springhill High School with the Class of 1958.

Marilyn chose a career in nursing and entered nursing training in Amherst, Nova Scotia, in September 1958. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from Payzant Memorial Hospital in Windsor, Nova Scotia, in 1961.

It was during her nursing training in Windsor that Marilyn met Angus Beaton, the love of her life. They were married in Springhill on September 16, 1961, beginning a marriage that would last nearly 65 years, until Angus’s passing in August of 2026. Their life together took them from Nova Scotia to Ontario and eventually back home to Nova Scotia.

Marilyn and Angus moved to Toronto in 1962, where Marilyn worked as a nurse at various hospitals while raising their two sons. In 1968, they purchased a home in Bramalea, Ontario, moving into their new home on New Year’s morning 1969.

In 1969, Marilyn began a new chapter in her career when she became a correctional officer at the Vanier Centre for Women in Brampton, Ontario. She worked at Vanier from 1969 until 1979.

Marilyn and Angus eventually returned to Nova Scotia, settling into retirement in 2005. They made their home at the Summer Cove condominium in Bedford, where they developed many close friendships and enjoyed their time together, particularly summer evenings spent on their balcony overlooking the Bedford basin.

Marilyn loved to travel and especially enjoyed spending the winter months in South Padre Island. Travel, family and the many friendships she and Angus made throughout their lives brought her great happiness.

Above all else, Marilyn’s greatest joy was her family and, especially, her husband Angus. Their life together was one of love, companionship and devotion. Marilyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who took great pride in her family and cherished the time they spent together.

Marilyn is survived by her sons, Daniel (Jacqueline) and Paul (Cindy); her grandchildren, Julie (John), Susan (Liv), Steven, Danielle (Tom), and Angela (Scott); and her great-grandchildren, Jacob and Catherine. She is also survived by her loving sister, Brenda, and many nieces and nephews.

Marilyn was predeceased by her beloved husband, Angus Beaton; her parents, Frederick “Ted” Hunter and Violetta Hunter; and her in-laws, Patrick O’Brien, Theresa Shiek, Findlay Beaton, Doreen Beaton, Ambrose Beaton, Rosalia Beaton, Martin Beaton, Joan Beaton.

Marilyn will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all those whose lives she touched. Her memory will live on through the family she loved so dearly and the many people who had the privilege of knowing her.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and caregivers who provided Marilyn with compassionate care during her stay at Shannex Parkstone.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday September 9, 2026 from 2-4pm amd 6-8pm in J.A Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax and a Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday September 10, 2026 at 11:00am in St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 1288 Bedford Highway, Bedford, NS.
