A graduate of the Halifax Infirmary School of Nursing with honors in 1955, Marina dedicated many years to the nursing profession. Her compassion and care touched countless lives.
In May 1956 Marina was an Apple Blossom Princess in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. She radiated beauty and modesty.
On April 27, 1957 Marina married the love of her life, Douglas. They met while she was nursing at the Halifax Infirmary.
After raising her four children with love and dedication, she embarked on a new chapter alongside her husband, Douglas, by founding Nova Appraisals following their formal retirement — a testament to their shared vision and entrepreneurial spirit.
Marina was a devout Roman Catholic whose faith was a guiding light throughout her life. Over the years she spent countless hours in prayer and faithfully received the sacraments up to her final days. She led a life of quiet self sacrifice and selflessness.
Her commitment to service extended beyond her professional and family roles. In 1976 she had the distinguished honor of meeting the late Queen Elizabeth II in Fredericton, New Brunswick, during her tenure as Regent of her chapter of the Imperial Order of Daughters of the Empire. ( I.O.D.E.)
Marina was a self taught, extremely talented seamstress whose hands crafted countless beautiful garments for her children and grandchildren — each stitch a reflection of her love and creativity. Her love of gardening brought beauty into every season and joy to those around her. She had a life-long interest in learning about her ancestry that was coupled with family anecdotes.
Marina will be lovingly remembered by her children: Natasha (Gerald ) Mader of Greenwood, Indiana ; Pamela Zimmer of Halifax, Nova Scotia ; Brian Murray (Jane Calder ) of Bedford, Nova Scotia; and Kevin Anthony (Laurence) Murray of Paris, France.
She leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren: Natalie (Dan) Doroshenko, Christopher Mader, Nicholas (Alyssa ) Mader, Lydia Zimmer, Sophie (Brad ) Zimmer, Andrew Murray , Maureen (Simon) Murray , and Joshuah Murray.
Marina’s legacy continues through eight great grandchildren who brought immense joy to her later years.
She is survived by her brother Jim Legge. Marina was predeceased by her husband of 68 years Douglas, (May 16,2025); her parents Lewis and Kathleen Legge; and her sister Stella Murphy.
Marina’s life was one of grace, strength, and unwavering devotion. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
