

SIGSWORTH (Madden), Marion Louise – 85, passed away peacefully on November 3rd, 2010 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Liverpool, N.S in 1925, Marion was the daughter of Harry Dennis Madden and Marion (O’Reilly) Madden. She attended school in Liverpool and at Mount St. Vincent Academy in Halifax, going on to graduate from St. Martha’s Hospital in Antigonish with an R.N. in 1946. After a period of private nursing in physicians offices in Liverpool, Marion entered post graduate training in operating room nursing at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland and at St. Luke’s Hospital, N.Y., N.Y. She returned to Canada in 1951 and joined the Canadian Navy as Lieutenant M.N. stationed at Stadacona Military Hospital, Halifax where she was both an O.R. nurse and supervisor. Marion retired from the Navy in 1957 and worked with her husband in a paediatric office until retirement in 1990.
Marion held memberships in the Nova Scotia and Canadian Registered Nurses Associations, and was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Halifax.
She is survived by her husband Pius, her son, Bill (Catherine) Sigsworth, (Sackville, N.B.) and granddaughter Emma Sigsworth (Sackville, N.B.), as well as her sister Joyce Madden (Halifax), her brother Dennis (Audrey) Madden, (Victoria, B.C.) and four nieces. Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax on Friday, November 5th from 2-4 & 6-8pm. Memorial Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Saturday, Nov 6th at 10am.
