Marjorie Louise Brownell

Marjorie Louise Brownell, a cherished educator, devoted family member, and passionate traveler, passed away peacefully of natural causes on September 16, 2025, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, at the age of 93. Born on July 12, 1932, in East Dalhousie, Marjorie was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Hugh, her parents Rose and Charlie McGowan, her brother Douglas McGowan, and her sisters Fay Spencer and Doris McNamara. Her memory will be lovingly cherished by her son Tremaine Brownell and his wife Brenda, and her grandson Scott Brownell, along with his partner Lauran Haas, who will miss her deeply.

After graduating from the Nova Scotia Teachers College in 1950, Marjorie embarked on a remarkable 42-year career in education. She taught elementary school in Nova Scotia, Ontario, New Brunswick, and even Germany, adapting to new communities with grace as she supported her husband's military career.
