On July 13, 2026, having completed her mortal mission, God called our Mom "Home!" At the amazing age of 103, with her family by her side, she was ushered into the arms of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Mother was born in the small village of Fisherman's Harbour, on the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia; the youngest of four daughters, to Alexander (Sandy) and Verena Cooke.
At the age of 16, she followed her sisters to Halifax for employment. Her sister Hilda took her to Full Gospel Church. It was there she committed her life to Jesus. It was also there, that she met our Dad, Ralph Waldo Emerson Giffin.
Mom was a very talented gal! She loved to bake, cook, garden, make beautiful flower arrangements, and tole-painted items that our Dad made in his workshop. But it was the daughter of her landlord, who owned a Beauty Shop in Halifax, that saw her work ethic and artistic ability. Mom was offered the opportunity to apprentice in her shop as a Cosmetologist. Thus began her long career of Hairdressing. Eventually co-owning a shop of her own on Spring Garden Road called Garden's Hairstyling.
Mother was also involved with the Gideon (now Share Word) Ladies Auxiliary. She had the privilege of passing out many little white New Testaments to new Nurses at their Capping. This practice of giving out The Word of God was carried on for the remainder of her life. We were told that as recently as weeks ago, she was giving out New Testaments to various people she came in contact with. Our parents were also faithfully involved in the life of Full Gospel Church in many capacities, with Mother being the oldest living member of the church!
For ten years Mom was lovingly cared for by the staff at Precision Health, 6th floor, Washmill Lake Road. In November, 2025 she was transferred to Moody Hal (Shannex) where her passing occurred.
Mom was predeceased by our Dad in 2002; her sisters Lois (Harnish), Hilda (Siteman), and Cora (MacDonald). Left to miss her dearly are her children, Glenna (Bill) Sydney; Clint (Heather) Lower Sackville; grandchildren Craig, Sydney, and Evan (Sara May) Lower Sackville. Great-grandchildren, Lila and Hugh MacDougall, step great- grandson Aubrey Stone, Verena and Nolen MacDougall. Also, close family friend Cheryl (Bruce) Cole and many friends and relatives.
On Monday, August, 10, visitation will be at 10am with a Celebration of Life at 11 followed by a reception at Full Gospel Church, 2256 Larry Uteck Blvd., Bedford.
