Mary Elizabeth Hill

Born in Lower Prospect, Nova Scotia on May 15th, 1936, she left us peacefully on August 24th, 2026, at the age of 90. Mary was the 4th of 6 children born to her loving parents Catherine (Kate) and William (Bill) Brophy in a home filled with love, laughter, and stories. Although her memories were fading in her final years, they will never be forgotten, as our family will continue to share her family stories for generations to come.

Mary’s life was full of love for her entire family and friends, and her many creative outlets, she was an incredible homemaker who had many talents. She enjoyed rug hooking, sewing, crocheting and many other crafting hobbies. She had a smile that could like up a room and loved a good laugh and a game of cards (she always had time for a game of cribbage). She also had a life long love of country music that included a great trip to Nashville that she never forgot, as well as great joy traveling to Disney World for a 50th wedding anniversary with the family.

Mary is survived by her loving husband Ray Hill, together they would be celebrating 70 years of marriage this year; her sons Joe Hill (Gwen) and Michael Hill (Stefanie) of Halifax, and her daughter Barbara Baldock (Tony, pre-deceased) of Ottawa; her sisters Janet Slaunwhite (Reg) and Margaret (Babe) Blackburn (Cecil pre-deceased) her Grandchildren Autumn (Angel) Hill, Kaleahsha Hill (Josh), and Leahndra Hill; her step granddaughter and grandson Megan Rodgers (Lee) and Jason Warner (Alisha): and her 11 great grandchildren.

Mary is predeceased by her parents, her Brother William (Billy) Brophy and wife Jean, and her sisters Dorothy (Chook) Knight and her husband Reg, and Lila (Lick) Rhuda and her husband Murray; and her son-in-law Tony Baldock.

Please Join the family for visitation to be held at JA Snow Funeral home at 339 Lacewood drive in Halifax, on Friday August 28th, 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday August 29th at 11:30 in St. Stephen’s Catholic Church at 6032 Normandy Drive, Halifax, NS, followed by a reception in the church basement. The family will carry on after the reception to the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lower Sackville, NS.
