Kathleen LeBlanc passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on February 9, 2015. Kaye, born in Sydney, was the daughter of the late Peter and Margaret Moore. By age 12, both of her parents had passed away, but she was not left alone. Her older siblings cared for her with such love that she always believed she was a special child, and she was. Kaye remained closely engaged with her family, especially her nieces and nephews, and friends for her whole life, always wanting to share in their lives.
Kaye was educated in Sydney and then Saint Patrick’s High School in Halifax, where she was valedictorian of her graduating class. After studying at Miss Murphy’s Business College in Halifax, she accepted a position as court stenographer in Truro where she met her beloved Ivan. For their first dates, he worked hard to get her to go horseback riding. But she wanted to go dancing. They married in 1947 and thus began a 53 year love affair that had no horseback riding at all but dances most Saturday nights during their younger years and whenever a good party could be concocted in later years. Parties started when Kaye arrived, always carrying her special-occasion cakes or pies made with Valley apples or strawberries. The grandkids waited in the window and then rushed to greet her at the door, knowing that laughter and foolishness were about to begin. And soon Kaye’s laughter filled the room as she moved from one person to another with riotous excitement, pulling people together, connecting and telling stories. Kaye and Ivan resided first in Truro then Saint John, NB and, finally, in Kentville NS. In Kentville, she was employed at the Blanchard-Fraser Memorial Hospital and the Audiology Association. Kaye’s favourite places included: South Bar, Cape Breton, filled with people who worked hard, loved life and a good party and Kentville where Kaye served up turkey and lasagna dinners for family and friends. After her husband Ivan’s death, she moved to Halifax to be closer to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to whom she was Nana Noonie. Kaye eventually moved to Northwood Manor. The family wishes to thank the nurses and support staff of One Centre, Northwood Manor, for the exceptional care, attention and love they devoted to Kaye’s final few years. Kaye was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been predeceased by sisters, Elizabeth, Sarah and Clara and brothers Archie and Allie.
Kaye is survived by her son Robert (Judy Ballah), Halifax, daughter Kathy, Wellington, NS, adored grandchildren Heather (Steven) Glascock, Bedford NS , Stephanie (Corey) Lines, Dartmouth, NS, Jonathan (Christa) Flynn, Calgary, AB, Sarah (Adam) MacPherson, Alma, NB and step-grandson, Danny Ballah, Halifax, and her precious great grandchildren, Emma and Owen Glascock, Maggie Flynn and Ace MacPherson.
Memorial Service at Snow’s Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS, Saturday, February 14 at 1 pm. Refreshments following the service. Family internment will be conducted at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Chapter.
