RYAN, MARY ALICE passed peacefully Saturday, November 3, 2018, at the Halifax Infirmary. Born February 26, 1937, she was a daughter of the late James and Mary (Gillis) Hines. Mom lived a life filled with love, laughter, generosity and compassion. She was a constant example of a life dedicated to family and friends, and loved to have us gathered in her home for a chat, a laugh, and a cup of tea. She was a guiding example to us all of the power of love, the importance of forgiveness and the strength derived from faith and hope. Mom lived her Christian beliefs and opened her heart and home to family, friends and strangers when they needed the comfort of a loving and supportive home. She will be sorely missed by all of us who loved her. Survived by daughter, Catherine (Stanhope PEI); son, Joseph (Halifax) and grandchildren, Meaghan, Joshua and Zachary; nieces and nephews, Janet (Chris) Wickstrom, Dan (Debbie) Smith, John (Kelly) Smith, Andrew (Heather)Smith, Jennifer (Nina) Smith, Suzie (Bob) Wilson, Steven (Julie) Hines, Martin (Janice) Hines and her many ‘Ryan’ nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She was proud to welcome into the family Tracy Doucette, Marie Vaagen and Charlene Gillis. Predeceased by her loving husband, James; son, Michael; brother, James Hines; sisters, Patricia (Smith) and Elizabeth (Hines). Visitation, Wednesday, November 7, from 4 – 7 pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, Halifax. Funeral Service, Thursday, November 8, at 11 am at Saint Mother Teresa of Kolkata Church, Halifax. The family would like to especially thank the staff of 3ICMU and Emergency Department at the Halifax Infirmary for their compassionate and professional care of our mother/grandmother. Sorry to hear about Aunt Snookie's passing. Our hearts and prayers are with you at this very sad time. Our greatest memory is when we visited with Jim and Snookie and having our "bed lunch" before we went to bed. We still tell people about our memories of this and hope other people practice this. Love to all and will contact Joe and Kathy within the next week or so. Take care to all and wish we could be there with you.
