Maureen Marie (O’Flynn) Hanson passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2019, at the QEII Hospital at age 81. Daughter of John Claude and Lorena (Lantz) O’Flynn. Survived by her loving husband, Bill “Hap” Hanson, and married for over 61 years; devoted sons, Bill (Mary) and John Paul (Pam Lawlor); grandchildren, Kyle and Rick of Halifax; Ross of Canmore, Alberta; Marla (Travis Sexton) Ottawa; Nolan (Chloe); and her precious first great grandchild, Drew. Also survived by her sisters, Pearl Shubley and Colleen (Pierre) Champagne; sisters-in-law, Bernice “Bunny” O’Flynn and Rosetta O’Flynn. Predeceased by brothers, John O’Flynn and Patrick O’Flynn.
Born and raised in Halifax, Maureen attended St. Patrick’s High School, worked at Maritime Tel & Tel for 34 years, was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers Association and could be found volunteering on a monthly basis, sewing “Heart Pillows” for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. She also enjoyed her weekly swimming and exercise at the Canada Game Centre.
To say Maureen was the heart and soul of the family and the best grandmother ever would be a huge understatement. She was well-known for her generosity, kind-heartedness and caring nature. Maureen “Nanny” will be so, so missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive from 7pm to 9pm, on Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Funeral Service will be held at Saint Benedict Catholic Church, 45 Radcliffe Drive, Halifax at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 with a reception to follow. Reverend Alex Coloutti officiating. Burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
