Hickey, M. Maureen, 81, died at Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga on October 18, 2025. Born in Amherst, Nova Scotia on July 19, 1944, she was the first child of the late Arthur and Margaret (Legacy) Hickey.
Maureen had two passions in life: music and her faith. She earned a master’s degree in music and was an accomplished pianist who won several competitions. She shared her love of music by teaching music in several Mississauga elementary and junior high schools. She was also the organist and choir director at a few parishes in Mississauga.
Maureen was a Sister of Charity of Halifax for over a decade. Despite suffering with MS for almost 30 years, her faith never waivered and her favourite and frequent expression was, “I am so blessed.”
She is survived by her sister Anne Dubé (Gilles), sister-in-law Sandra Hickey, niece Joanna Dunn, nephews Jason Dubé and Mike Hickey (Bobbie), Steve’s partner Maygen Herman Hickey, and several great-nephews and nieces: Michael, David, Devanee, Evalynn, and Jasper. Also left to mourn is her dearest friend Linda Terrence-Cooke (Michael). Linda, a retired nurse, and Michael welcomed Maureen into their home for 9 years where Linda took exceptionally good care of Maureen as her MS worsened and she battled cancer. Maureen’s loved ones will be forever grateful to Linda for her unmatched caring, generosity, and support!
Besides her parents, Maureen was predeceased by brothers Frank and Paul, and nephew Steve.
