Maynard Dwight MacCuspic

It is with the deepest of sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Maynard Dwight MacCuspic on July 30th, 2026 at age 67. Maynard passed peacefully at the Victoria General Hospital surrounded by his family who love him with all their hearts. Born in Sydney, Cape Breton in 1958, he was the son of Murdock and Kathleen (Paterson) MacCuspic.

Maynard was a kind and generous soul who would always greet you with a warm smile and a “how she goin?” Raised in Grand River, Cape Breton, he was a volunteer firefighter and spent most of his life by the sea. He moved to the city to become a diesel mechanic by trade where he worked at Metro Transit. The sea called him back to Cape Breton where he had a successful career out of L'Archeveque as a lobster and crab fisherman. Ultimately the city called his name again and he settled in Bedford, Nova Scotia with his beautiful family. In 2005, Maynard acquired Pennywise Auto Services where he became a pillar of the community in Lower Sackville.

Maynard loved spending time with his family whether it was out on the water, hanging out at home, or going out to a restaurant to enjoy a good meal. Gaffing a buoy, chasing giant bluefin tuna, or jigging mackerel off the side of the boat, Maynard was game for it all. He cherished the memories he made while travelling with his wife Janine. Some of his favourite trips were to Czechia to watch the World Juniors Hockey, beachside in the Cayman Islands and Florida, captaining the boat through the canals of France, and visiting his daughter Bria in Stockholm, Sweden. But one of his most treasured travel memories was watching his son Dylan marry the love of his life in Italy in 2023. Maynard and Janine's happy place was at their seaside cottage in Seafoam where they made lasting memories with their friends and family. His children were his pride and joy. Maynard was so proud watching his son play hockey and could always be found standing alongside the boards cheering him on. He loved spending his weekends supporting his daughter at her Highland dance competitions and her volleyball tournaments. He wore his children's accomplishments with so much pride. Maynard was overjoyed by his newest role as “Granddad” to his first grandchild Angus who he adored.

Maynard is survived by his wife Janine (née Wagerman), son Dylan (Leah), daughter Bria (Kyle), grandson Angus, brother Eldon (Dianne), sister-in-law Margaret Ann, brother-in-law Keenan (Kim), nieces and nephews Roddie, Colin, Kate, Charmaine, Logan, cousins and Aunt Irene. Pre-deceased by brother Graham, and his parents Murdo and Kay.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Halifax Infirmary (3IMCU and ICU), as well as the Victoria General Hospital (ICU). Your care, compassion, and true dedication is something we will never forget. Thank you for making an extremely difficult time more comforting.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, 11th August from 5-8pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, 12th August at 11am in The Presbyterian Church of St. David, 1544 Grafton St, Halifax. A private family burial will take place.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
