Michael (William) Duggan died February 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Mike was born March 8, 1957, in Halifax, NS, the son of Eric and Kay (Kenny) Duggan. He attended St Agnes Elementary, St Patrick’s High School, and St Mary's University where he received a bachelor's degree in Criminology.
Mike grew up in Halifax, NS and made a career of helping young people as a Youth Care Worker, retiring from the Nova Scotia Health Choices Program, in 2012. After retirement he lived a quiet life and kept busy with part time work, golfing, swimming, biking and spending time with friends and family. Most recently, Mike worked part-time, at Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Halifax Airport location where he formed lasting friendships.
Our brother, affectionately known as MikeD, was a good son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who loved the beach and card games (rummy and cribbage were his favourite). Mike was a football and lacrosse player in his high school years and an NFL enthusiast (fly Eagles fly!) – so very appropriate MikeD died on Super Bowl Sunday.
Mike was especially proud of all his nieces and nephews - always interested in what they were doing and giving words of encouragement. Most of all, Mike loved and was loved by all his family. Our hearts are heavy.
Mike is survived by his brothers & sisters and their families: Brian (Beth Moser) Halifax, NS, and Angela, Saint John, NB, Robbie, and Nate, Sackville, NB, and Janice, Haielee and Alex, Beechville, NS; Peter (Sherri) and Courtney, Calgary, AB; Christopher (Sun) and Aiden, Alex and Nicole, Saskatoon, SK; Nora (Scott) Perry, and Nicolas, Halifax, NS and Elizabeth (Billy Hamilton), Corner Brook, NL; Ruth (Otto Van Barneveld), Marriott’s Cove, NS; Patrick (Lisa Harrison), and Peyton, Halifax, NS, Lauren, Ottawa, ON and Katie, Toronto, ON; Margaret (Doug) and Jenna Lewis, Lower Sackville, NS; aunts Judy Stanley, Gloria Veino; great-aunt, Sister Virginia Deal SC, Halifax, NS and many cousins and friends. Mike was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Thomas, and Lawrence (Lou), his sister Carol and niece, Holly Van Barneveld.
Arrangements are in the care of JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 12th, 2025, from 5-8pm. A private family burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Halifax, NS.
