It is with great sadness that the family of Norman Ruben Link announce his sudden passing on December 1, 2021 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Norm passed peacefully with his children Alison Brown and Gregory Link, and his beloved Diane Curren, by his side.
Born in Stanton, North Dakota on March 14, 1945 to Emil and Ida Link (both deceased), Norman spent his youth on the family farm with his sisters Doris Weidrich, Darlene (Melvin) Pfeifer (both deceased), Barbara Burgad and Paulette (Wayne) Mattheis . Nieces and nephews include Marco (Peggy) Pfeifer, Dean (Carrie) Pfeifer, Ross Pfeifer, Lonnie Bentley (deceased), Lita (Don) Tupa, Susan Burgad, Cindy (Anton) Ortiz, Sylvia Burgad (deceased), Anita (Brian) Haddorff, Paul Burgad, Brad Mattheis, Heather Mattheis and Miles Mattheis.
After proudly serving his country in the United States Navy, Norman relocated to Braintree, Massachusetts where he raised his children with his (former) wife Ellen Link (nee Reardon), and pursued an accomplished career in sales, travelling and making lifelong friends.
In his retirement, Norman returned home to Stanton where he opened Charlie’s Bistro. Norm was chef, manager and master storyteller, entertaining his customers while they enjoyed his delicious meals as much as his stories.
While in Stanton, Norm rescued his much loved Saint Bernard’s, Buddy and Griff, and together they enjoyed daily rides in his prized truck “Tudor”. After losing his two best friends, Norm welcomed a new Saint Bernard, Charlie, into his life. Norm will be greatly missed by Charlie, who will be a constant companion to Diane in Nova Scotia.
Norman will be missed by all, including his grandchildren Tristan (13) and Micah (10) residing in Squamish, British Columbia. The boys will always hold fond memories of time spent with Grampy.
Burial services and a celebration of life will be held in North Dakota in Summer, 2022. More information on the date and time will be announced once finalized.
The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation in Norman’s name to the Central Dakota Humane Society. https://cdhs.net/donate/
