Orval John Larson

With deep love and gratitude for his life, the family of Orval John Larson, aged 80, announces his peaceful passing at home in The Pemberly, Bedford, Nova Scotia, with Jean, Carey Ann, and Destiny by his side.

Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Orval was raised in Vanguard, where he received both his elementary and high school education. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Freda Larson, who instilled in him the values of hard work, family, and community.

Orval leaves behind his devoted wife of 57 years, Jean, their daughter Carey Ann and son in law Tony Stewart, and his grandson Jean Pierre (JP) Breton. He is also lovingly remembered by JP’s wife Sarah Breton, and their children — Orval’s great grandchildren — Jasmine, Noel, Olivia, and Luke.

Growing up, Orval spent countless hours swimming, fishing, and enjoying holidays at Meadow Lake Provincial Park, places that shaped his lifelong love of the outdoors. In 1966, he began farming alongside his father, a chapter of life he cherished deeply. He married Jean Broadfoot and graduated from Kelsey Institute in 1968. Together, they returned to Vanguard to raise their daughter, Carey Ann where they not only enjoyed farming but curling and golfing.

Life eventually led Orval and Jean eastward to Porters Lake, Nova Scotia, where they settled to be closer to Carey Ann, Tony, and JP. There, Orval embraced a slower pace filled with fishing, golfing, and treasured Sunday suppers.

In 2024, Orval and Jean moved to The Pemberly in Bedford, where Orval quickly became part of the community. His days were happily spent playing pool, bingo, chase the ace, and crib, bringing his easy humour and gentle spirit to everyone he met.

A graveside service will be held in Vanguard, Saskatchewan in October (exact date to be announced).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, causes close to the family’s heart.

Orval’s life was defined by quiet strength, deep loyalty, and the love he carried for his family. His presence will be missed, but his legacy lives on in the stories, traditions, and memories he leaves behind.
