Born in Upper Granville, NS, she was the daughter of the late John and Eleanor (Pilgrim) Burfitt. As a young girl, her family settled in Kingston NS where she lived and worked until she joined the RCAF Airwomen in 1952. After her release, she settled in the HRM where she met and later married her husband of 44 years, Patrick Sheridan.
When her hands weren’t busy creating through sewing, knitting, crocheting, or cross-stitching, her mind was busy learning of the world around her. She had a keen interest in current events and could carry a conversation on most any topic. She was a sports enthusiast and thoroughly enjoyed Hockey Night in Canada (until the salary disputes), as well as figure skating.
In recent years, her attention turned to the various sports and teams her grandsons were involved with. Her special interest in the people in her life allowed her to maintain many special friendships. Known for her infectious laugh, she was quick to share laughter with her friends from the RCAF Airwomen and colleagues at Commercial Union Assurance, where she had worked for 18 years at the time of her retirement. Faced with many physical challenges, through her desire to maintain her independence, her personal strength became her legacy.
Survived by son, Andrew (Ginny Duzak), Halifax; daughter, Janice (Kelly Woodill), Timberlea; 3 grandchildren, Chad, Jack, and Nicholas Woodill; brother, John, Kingston, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Patrick; brother, James; sister-in-law, Lydia “Pat” Burfitt.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, August 10, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm with a celebration of Pamela’s life on Monday, August 11, at 10:00 am, both in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, (455-0531), with a reception and family burial following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation or charity of choice.
Special thanks to her living angel and longtime special friend, Marion Crane, for her devoted assistance.
Thank you also to the nurses at the Palliative Care Unit and Dr. Hugh Matheson, who took from his personal time to provide mom with old-fashioned in-home care.
