GODIN, Patricia Ann – 59, passed away January 27, 2011 at Capital District Health Authority, VG Site in the Palliative Care Unit after a short battle with lung cancer. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Shirley Evelyn (Fudge) Godin and Herman Rene Godin. Patricia “Patsy” earned her Registered Nursing diploma when she was 18 and worked for over 25 years in the profession. Her career started at Stadacona and later she developed an interest in administration and research and went on to work in the Department of Hematology at Camp Hill Hospital. Sadly Patsy developed a work- related illness after construction of the new hospital that left her disabled in the early 1980’s and no longer able to work. She faced many challenges as a result. As a young woman, Patricia was quite athletic and enjoyed the outdoors, cycling, hiking and traveling. She travelled extensively through Europe and went on frequent trips to Florida with friends, family and relatives. Later her interests focused on knitting, gardening and craft work. Despite becoming ill she continued to help and assist others especially those she became acquainted with in the apartment complex in which she lived. In particular, she was a dear friend and nursed her aging cousin Mr. Douglas Munroe who lives in the same building. She loved to laugh and have fun and touched all who knew her.
She is predeceased by a sister, Florence “Sissy” Godin (MacEachern) and brothers Joseph Michael Godin and David Rene Godin. She is survived by her last living sibling brother, James Robert Paul Godin (Beth) of Hammonds Plains. She is survived also by her nephews and nieces including David Jr. Godin (Jenelle), Christopher MacEachern (Tanya), Jacob Alexander Godin and nieces Sophie Victoria Godin, Danielle Rose Godin (Daryl) and grand nieces and nephews Jessie-Lee, Austin, RaeAnn, Kayleigh, Aiden and Conley.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the medical team of the New Halifax Infirmary 8.2 Nursing Unit, those who provided 24 hour sitter service to Patricia, cousin Catherine Wilson-Slade, good friend Elizabeth Johnson and members of the Palliative Care Unit VG site for their care and compassion provided to Patricia. Memorial service will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax on Wednesday, February 2nd at 11 a.m. Burial is in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association or the Canadian Cancer Society. For online condolences, please visit: www.jasnowfuneralhome.com.
