With profound sadness the family announce the passing of Dorothy Patricia (Butler) Hatcher at Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Wing, QEII Halifax.
Patsy's beautiful smile was warm. Her voice was tender. Her kindness was gentle. Her love was sincere. Her heart was open.
The epitome of charm, grace, class and style, she was an amazing hostess of picture-perfect holiday family gatherings. A great admirer of natural beauty, she was an avid gardener and birdwatcher, gleefully tending to her bird feeders and flower beds.
If all the world were a meadow, teaming with vivid flowers and beautiful birds, she'd be the butterfly, softly floating in the fragrant air, lighting on blossoms, knowing the beauty, sharing the light, living the love, disturbing nothing.
Born in Halifax, she grew up in Head of St. Margaret's Bay and had a life-long affinity for the ocean. She worked for 10 years as a secretary at the CBC and subsequently spent many years, also as a secretary, in the IWK Cardiology department. As a mature student, in 1982, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude from Mount Saint Vincent University. For many years she practiced yoga faithfully, never quite looking her age.
Patsy travelled to many countries over the years and she, with her soulmate Gordon, spent many a vacation at the Rosemont Hotel in Hamilton Bermuda, where they honeymooned.
A lover of Canadian Art, particularly The Group of Seven, she enjoyed regular strolls on trails and parklands, often employing her gift for photography, drawing inspiration to humbly create her beautiful sketches, oil paintings and water colours. She was also a gifted seamstress as described by a dear friend; with an innate ability to master complicated and intricate Vogue patterns.
She is survived by nephew Edward Moar (Mary), niece Melissa Moar, great nieces Ashley Moar and Sinead Dempsey, great nephew Mark Moar (Danielle), great great nephew Mason William Moar and family friend Louise Allen.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Gordon Lewis Hatcher, father A. Bufton Butler, mother Ruby Helen (Anderson) (Butler) Newhook, sister Elizabeth Joan (Butler) Moar, step-father Bob Newhook, nieces Vivian Moar and Elizabeth Moar, loving aunt and uncle Harold Anderson and Dorothy Margaret (Butler) Anderson.
The family extends thanks and appreciation to the staff in 6 West at Veterans Memorial. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice.
A memorial service will be held from 2:00p.m. at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive in Halifax on Saturday October 8th. Burial will follow at Saint George's Anglican Church Cemetery in Head of Saint Margarets Bay.
